Everything about the 2019 BMW i8 is better than before

Love it or hate it, the BMW i8 is a stellar looking car that lacks the performance of the automaker’s M division. It’s a hybrid, and it looks stellar. So, it should come as little surprise the 2019 model gets visual upgrades, but there’s nothing too new on the outside, especially with the coupe. However, the Roadster looks downright gorgeous.

Electric range and horsepower are up for 2019 as well. The i8 gets a new 11.6 kWh battery pack that ups electric range from just 12 miles to 18. It’s not Nissan Leaf, but remember it’s a hybrid. Horsepower has increased by 12 as well to a total of 369 hp. BMW claims both the i8 Coupe and Roadster get 70 miles-per-gallon equivalent. Those figures could change, though.

There are two new colors—E-Copper and Donnington Grey. The Roadster does have an electric convertible soft top, which can open in under 16 seconds up to speeds of 31 miles per hour. If you’re going to drop the cash on this hybrid—and it will start north of $150,000—you will want to do so in style. Final pricing will be announced at a later date.

The 2019 BMW i8 Roadster and Coupe are niche hybrids for an automaker that also sells the pure-EV i3. It’s a halo car for the i brand, and it certainly does the job well in the styling department.

For as much as we would like an M performance version, there are no plans yet. Just a lot of hope such a creation is in the making because the BMW i8 is one gorgeous car.
